Charles Thielemans Project

Revealing the soul
Beneath the accumulated layers over time, this house hid a forgotten charm. Like many old homes, its parquet floors had been hidden beneath carpeting, its walls broken up into small rooms and its original materials masked by successive additions.
The project involved freeing up the structure, restoring breath and coherence to the whole. The volumes were redesigned to let light into the three adjoining rooms and to rediscover a clear interpretation of the spaces. The original floors were restored, textures are revealed, details reinterpreted and other elements add depth to the new design. Each gesture seeks the balance between memory and modernity, between the presence of the past and the fluidity of a contemporary lifestyle to accommodate the new family who inhabits it.
The result: a house that is awakened rather than transformed, where each space breathes again, alive, anchored in its history, but open to the present.
